INSULL DISAPPEARS

Surprise for Greek Police (Received 16, 11.30 a.m.) ATHENS, March 15. The police surrounded the house of Samuel Insull but found lie had disappeared, though lie supposedly was confined to bed by ill-health. He was previously ordered to quit the country to-night, but refused. Samuel Insull has been wanted by the American police since October, 1932, on charges of embezzlement and larceny with regard to the crash of his gigantic Insull Public Utilities combine which, it is estimated, involved investors in losses amounting to £400,000,000. Since then he has been sheltering in Greece, and the Greek Government twice refused the American Government’s request for his extradition. Recently, however, the American authorities forced the band of the Greek Government by deciding to cancel its extradition treaty with Greece unless Insull was deported. The Greek Government then ordered Insull to leave the country.
