ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. JUNIOR MEN’S COMPETITION From Our Own Correspondent The annual general meeting of the Waipukurau Golf Club was held last evening, Mr R. Haldane presiding over a good attendance of members. Thtf annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, being considered very satisfactory. The election of officers for the ensuing year results as follows: President, Mr R. Haldane (re-elected); vice-pres-idents, Messrs J. E. Reid, J. G. Clarkson, D. 11. Rickey; club captain, Air R. Keene; secretary and treasurer, Mr J, Boyce (re-elected); honorary auditor, Air C. B. Moore; committee, Messrs R. McLean, V. Bradley, H. Gair, L. R. Grant, H .Butler. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to have tbo sand boxes and discs painted; also that the junior competitions for men be resumed. The date of the opening was loft in the hands of the committee to decide. THE ANNUAL RETORT. “Your committee has pleasure in presenting its annual report and balancesheet, showing a statement of the assets and liabilities, also of receipts and expenditure for the yeaj 1933-34. The past season has been a very satisfactory one and it is pleasing to note that the finances of the club are very sound. The receipts for the past season were £376 15s 4d and the expenditure was £342 Ils 3d, showing a profit on the year’s working of £34 4s Id. The receipts for the past season show an increase of £22 13s 5d on those of last year. The overdraft has been further decreased by the sum of £34 4s-ld, leaving the present overdraft at the bank at £77 0s sd, while the balance of assets over liabilities stands at £5lO Os lOd. The expenditure for the past season shows an increase of £24 16s 3d more than that of last year, but this extra expenditure is more than accounted for by the fact that the sum of £47 7s 4d has been expended on new plant in the purchase of a second-hand motor truck and shed. After due consideration your committee decided that the time had arrived when the expenditure on this extra plant would have to be made. The cutting of fair ways and the general carting at the links has always been a problem with your committees for a number of years past, and it has only been through the good offers of various members of the club, who kindly loaned horses for this work, that the club has not had to face this expenditure long before this. It was only after careful thought and expert advice that your committee considered that the purchase of a second-hand truck would be the most economical and suitable for this work. Your committee would like to place on record their appreciation and thanks to the various members of the club who have, from time to time, loaned horses for use on the links. “Once again our tournaments have proved most successful. The ladies’ tournament netted a profit of £5 14s lOd while the men’s tournament netted a profit of £49 4s 6d. These figures prove that our tournaments still remain popular and your committee desires to thank the various members concerns .1 who worked so hard to make these fixtures such a success. ‘ ‘ During the past season the club lost two valuable members, Air and Mrs L. W. Bishop, who have left the district. Airs Bishop was always a very keen member, while Air Bishop was president of the club for some years. It is due, perhaps, to a large extent, to his enthusiasm and hard work, that the club is so successful to-day. To Mr an I Airs Bishop your committee desires to record its appreciation and thanks for their past services to the club, and to wish them every success in the future. “It is with deep regret that we record the passing of a very old member of the club, Mrs J. E. Reid. Mrs Reid was one of the pioneer members and also a life member of the club. To Mr Reid and family your committee, on behalf of the members, desires to record its very deepest sympathy. “At the close of the season the membership was 129, as compared with 125 last season. Thanks must be recorded to the various officers and members of the club who have helped in various ways to make the past season a successful one. The committee would finally express to Air and Mrs Billington its sincere thanks for their continued good services on behalf of the club.”
