MOTOR CAR EXHIBITS

Many New Features CHANGES IN ENGINE DESIGN Motoring enthusiasts found much to interest them at today’s Autumn Show. Although not very strong numerically the trade exhibits in this section possessed many new features and devices, with new nomenclature, in which such terms as floating power, knee-action independent frontwheel suspension, and aeroplane-lines featured, The exhibits shown catered for most of the motoring public, from the severe lines of the English car to the more sensational American typos. On these latter exhibits stream-lined descriptions of body-work were much in evidence. Several changes, not only in coachwork and engine design, but also in interior fittings were to be noticed in the 1934 models of most of the cars entered. Greater comfort for the passenger, with quickly adjustable seats; easier control of the car for the driver and a glittering display of dash-board instruments are given in these models. The sports car was represented by three exhibits, all of typically sporty lines, with plenty of bright colours — chiefly reds—to attract the eye of the prospective speedster. Next year should see still further radical changes in motor-engineering, as several companies of English and American manufacturers will possibly be introducing rear-engined cars.
