BATHS TEMPERATURE

Experiment by Te Awa Club BEING CONSIDERED BY COUNCIL An application to conduct an experiment which may result in raising tho water at the Napier Public Baths ro a temperature several degrees higher than it now is, has been made by the Te Awa Swimming Club to the Napier Borough Council. It is understood that the No. 4 committee of the council has the matter in hand, and will bring down its recommendation at the next meeting of the council. The Te Awa Club is conducting the experiment at its own expense, and is sanguine of its being successful. Members argue that even though this comparatively rough-and-ready test may raise the temperature only a few degrees without doing any harm to the boiier, it will prove the possibility of improving the present swimming facili•ties at comparatively small expense to the council. In addition, it is claimed that if the council were to find it possible to raise the temperature several degrees the process would result in an extended bathing season, with a coincident increase in the baths returns. This view is supported by the Hawke’s Bay Swimming Centre, which at a meeting this week was unanimous that the comparatively low temperature of the water throughout this summer had a marked effect upon the attendance of swimmers at the Public Baths. The members added the opinion that if the Borough Council did not devise some means of raising the temperature of the water, considerable revenue would be lost
