VISITING GOLFERS

Kirk-Windeyer Cup Team NEW SOUTH WALES PLAYERS The team of five players chosen to represent New South Wales this year in the matches with New Zealand for the Kirk Windeyer Cup is undoubtedly a very strong combination. It is true that several of the most distinguished players in New South Wales—Ferrier, Bettington, Hattersley, G. Thompson and Lee Brown—were not available; and Wittycomb, who played finely in the matches against the New Zealanders two years ago, and is in splendid form just now, has been apparently passed over. But even allowing for these omissions, the teams is regarded as almost as strong as any that could have been chosen. Eric Apperly, the Manly player, has long been accepted as one of the most accomplished golfers that Australia has produced. Dobson, of Concord, is not only in the front rankers, but he has played many times in New Zealand and has had unusual wide experience of golfing conditions there. Of the other three — Cutler, of Koval Sydney, Hughes, of Moore Park, and Ruwnld, of Killara—it may bo said that while they are better known in Sydney than abroad, they are all exceptionally good match players, who, at their best, fall very little short of State championship form. In spite of the disappointments that the selectors have had to face through the unexpected failure of some of our best men to get away, the team is certainly a strong one, and its members are quite capable of justifying themselves against the best players that New Zealand can put into the field against them.
