THE TOWN AND DISTRICT HOMING PIGEON CLUB From Our Own Correspondent The Waipukurau Homing Pigeon Club’s third race of the young-bird season was flown from Otaki, a distance of 91 miles. The weather prevented the birds registering fast times, but a good race resulted as follows:— C. Stowe’s Breakawey (971.58 yards per minute) 1, A. Fryer’s Neutral (970.67 yards y.p.m.) 2, T. Spencer’s Dandy (970.10 y.p.m.) 3, C. Wood's Unexpected (970 y.p.m.) 4, WEEK-END BOWLING. The results of matches played by the Waipukurau Bowling Club over the week-end arc as follow:— Central H.B. Buttons:— Walker, _ Parkin, Strang, Critchley (Waipawa) 30; Rood, Bromell, McLean, Clarkson (Waipukurau) 10. A. While s the next challenger, the match to be played at Waipawa. During the week-end a friendly cricket match was played, at Russell Park, Waipukurau, between a camp team and Waipukurau Old Boys. The camp batted first and made 41 (Me . Gregor 26). Bagge took _tliree for 22 and Anderson seven for 15. Old Boys made 76, P. James 14. A. Smales 13 and T. Spencer 12 being the double figure batsmen. Reagle was the most successful bowler for the artillerymen, taking six for 28. In their second strike camp made 7-, Hart, with 17, being the top scorer. Requiring 38 to win, Old Boys compiled i the required total for the loss of two wickets (McCarthy 18 not out and Bagge 12). Old Boys won by eight wickets.
