EARTH TREMORS
N.S.W. EXPERIENCE
Residents Much Alarmed FURTHER EXPLOSIONS (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 1, 11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 1. Earth tremors were experienced over a wide area in the State yesterday, the most severe being at Gunning. There were shocks also at Kangaroo Valley, Canberra, and Goulburn, and over 100 subterranean explosions at Gunning more severe than those on Tuesday. Residents are increasingly alarmed. The walls of several houses cracked, and plaster fell from others. A severe tremor was felt at Goulburn simultaneously with a big shock at Gunning. Father O’Leary, of the Riverview Observatory, says that, terrifying as the phenomenon may be, the residents of Gunning can take consolation in the fact that nothing serious is likely to happen there. The trouble is purely of a local character.
