THE NEW GRAND HOTEL
Opened This Morning As from this morning the Grand Hotel resumes its pre-earthquake status as one of the leading hotels of Hastings. The re-building of the premises was completed this week, and this morning the accommodation quarters were opened. Infinite care has heen taken in the furnishing of the living quarters, which •re all situated on the second floor. The interior has been artistically designed on the “ultra modern’’ style, which creates an atmosphere of comfort that will be welcomed by visitors. The colour scheme throughout is gold •nd green, with a background of fawn, and tho effect is very striking, though in no way extravagant. The management has given first consideration to the utility aspect rather than tho decorative in tho matter of the furnishing of the 16 bedrooms. Oak furniture predominates, and with tho dainty drapings each room is virtually • “haven of rest.” Hot and colrl water is supplied to every room. There are several two-room suites, which include a private bathroom and conveniences, whilst there are half a dozen bathrooms for the convenience of other patrons. Throughout the second storey tho floors have been covered with rich imperial axminster carpets, which effectively deaden the sound of footfalls in the passagew-ays. In the lonnge again the keynote is comfort. An unusual type of open fireplace will provide the necessary warmth on a chilly evening. Visitors are assured of a cordial welcome from Miss Bennett, who is to be hostess, and everything possible will be done by the management to ensure that visitors’ requirements are met.
