IONA ATHLETIC SPORTS
L. BAIRD SENIOR CHAMPION. JUNIOR TO S. LOMAS. As was the case last year, Sports’ Day (28th October) at Joua though a month earlier dawned mild and overcast and burst into blazing sunshine in the afternoon. As there was a programme of 30 events tho whole day was spent at the playing fields and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks are due to the Rev. D. J. A. Shaw and Mr L. A. Bogers, who again kindly acted as judges, and Mrs van Asch, who presented tho cups. The winner of the senior championshit) was L. Baird (G.), with 14 points, F. McLennan (G.) being runner-up with 9 points. In the junior championship S. Lomas (G.) and J. Foot (C.) tied with 13 points each, C. Crompton (0.) being runner-up with 9 points. House points resulted in Garton’s scoring 152 and Columba 90, which is indicative of a more even contest than that of last year. With the exception of the long jumps, in which last year’s records were eclipsed, the results of the jump events were materially the same as hitherto. Details: —■
