CUTS IN ALLOCATION

OAMARU UNEMPLOYED PROTEST. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OAMARU, Aug. 18. A meeting of over 200 unemployed last night protested against cuts in the allocations. It was reported that 100 men this week have been reduced and it is understood that a further 40 will be affected next week. It was resolved that a deputation wait on the Mayor, Mr. F. Cooney, and Mr. J. A. Macpherson, M.P., to move for a full allocation from the Unemployment Board for the district. Strong exception was taken to the attitude of 'the board relative to not forming a local unemployment committee in place of that recently dissolved. Tho question of married men being sent to the Waitaki hydro-electric works was also discussed and it was resolved. That the relief workers of North Otago strongly protest against being conscripted for hydro-electric works and call upon the unemployed to refuse any call for work there under present conditions. The opinion was also expressed by the meeting that the No. 10 scheme should be abolished as the man who bad means was the only one who could benefit.
