80th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED

MRS E. BULL HONOURED. A very jolly family gathering was held on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 80th natal anniversary of Mrs Elizabeth Bull, of 9 Todd street, Napier. Many telegrams had been received during the day from relatives and distant friends. Mrs Frank Downes had sent a charming posy of violets, plum blossom and maidenhair fern, which Mrs Bull wore on her frock of dove grey ring velvet trimmed with satin in a pretty tone of wallflower. A coateo to tone was also worn. Mrs Bull was in excellent health and heartily greeted relatives and friends as they arrived. The spacious living room was tastefully decorated with spring flowers and light greenery. The evening quickly passed with song and story, incidents of the old days being recalled and raised many a laugh. Supper was a jolly affair, and in the place of honour was set a handsome iced birthday cake with its f all com-

plement of candles. Mrs Bull’s health was proposed by her son Harry, and another son, Keith, responded on his mother’s behalf. The toast was heartily druids. Mrs Bull was pleased to have her six sons present: Harry, Dick, Hector, Arthur and George (all of Napier). Three daughters live out of Napier, Mrs Gilding at Masterton, Mrs Dunning at Island Bay, Wellington, and Mrs Trembath at Melbourne, all of whom sent greetings. Mrs Whyte and Mrs W. Palleson are the daughters resident in Napier.. The function was held at Mrs Bull’s residence, and Mrs W. Palleson acted as hostess. She wore a smart frock of Havana brown satin. Many intimate friends joined tho large number of relatives'. Included in those present were Mesdamcs Dick, Hector and Keith Bull. This interesting evening will be long remembered by those present, tho happy family spirit being so evident. Mrs Bull had with her her sons, daughters, sons-and daughters-in-law and their families, in addition to friends of her own younger days. The memory of their love and good wishes personally offered made her indeed a very happj’ w'oman.
