Damages amounting to £472 12/were claimed in the Supreme Court at Wellington yesterday from Gannaway and Co., stevedores, by Herbert Turner, a watersider, wno claimed that an accident in which he had his right leg crushed was caused through negligence on the part of the employees of the defendant company. Turner, in evidence, said that he had had four accidents while working on the waterfront, but the last was in no way connected with the previous ones. Counsel stated that the defence would bo that the average earnings by Turner and watersiders generally were considerably less than the estimate in the claim for damages. Plaintiff was awarded £156 4/- including £5O as general damages. His Honour said that the evidence was not very satisfactory, but he had come to the conclusion that £2 15/- per week was a fair amount to allow. —Press Association.
