BITUMEN SURFACING
SAVING IN MAINTENANCE. STRIKING EXAMPLE AT TARADALE. A striking example of a saving in maintenance on a bitumen surfaced road was illustrated in a report to the Taradale Town Board on Thursday night by the clerk (Mr W. G. Jarvis) who stated that for the year just ended the maintenance costs on the main road from Redeliffe bridge to Waverley road and Puketapu road from the Post Office to the Vicarage, making a total of approximately miles, was only £29 1.0/8.. Prior to the surfacing the annual maintenance for the gravel road was over £lij<) per mile. The bitumen surfacing cost about £BOO and from the low maintenance costs has proved to be a splendid investment by the board.
