CHILLED BEEF SHIPMENT

MODERATE CONDITION. SOME AFFECTED BY BLACK MOULD. (Received 16, 12.10 p.m.) London, March 15. The Port Fairey's New Zealand chilled beef arrived in moderate condition. Some quarters were good but many were affected by black mould, necessitating considerable timming before it was saleable. Australian and Argentine exporters are much interested in the consignment and expressed the opinion that the quality was admirable but lack of experience was apparently responsible for the faulty condition despite tho fact that less time was occupied in transit than was occupied in the case of the Port Fairey’s Sydney shipment, which was satisfactory, from which experts deduce that handling at the source and not time is a vital factor. A South African shipment of chilled beef arrived simultaneously. Tho quality was moderate, but it carried well.
