THE MAYORALTY.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—-Yes, all credit to Mr Maddiso* who has been asked to stand lor Mayor. We know he is one of our most worthy citizens. Still, one cannot but think that in our present Mayor we have a man of equally sterling qualities. Our memories are short. 1 am only one of those ratepayers who, perhaps’, take too little interest pi town matters. Personally, 1 know neither Mr Maddison nor Mr Roach, but 1 remember that through the times ot the harrowing earthquake and since, notwithstanding his financial losses and no doubt his feelings for his good assistants killed or injured, Mr Roach carried on in the true British spirit, proving himself the right man in the right place. Would it not be a graceful compliment at the first election since the earthquake for Mr Roach to be again elected, and without opposition? “Them’s my sentiments?' —Yours etc. OLD TIMER. Hastings,, 11/3,33.
