BRITISH “TALKIES."
(To The Editor.) Sir, —In my opinion “Mr Bill, th* Conqueror” is a good British “talkie,’’ and one that breaks away from the footlight farce tradition m a satisfactory way. The photography is good and the “flash backs” and the short section of “silent movie” work, with music instead of speech, are well carried out. ' It is good to see some English 'farm work in an English remaned. British ‘ ‘ talkies ’ ’ have used the British Navy with moderate success, and now it is to be hoped that English country life will have more attention given to it. The British aircraft, shipbuilding and fishing industries might, also be used as backgrounds with good effect. The American picture "Sky Bride” had rather an impressive story, and made interesting use of an American aircraft factory. The characters, of English picture romances, dramas, or even farces misnamed “comedies,” should not be open to scornful comment that “They never do any work I am, etc., R. H. F
