SALE AT MATAWHERO. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. Prices ruling in recent weeks were generally maintained on Friday at the weekly stock sale held at the Matawhere yards by the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association. There was a good attendance, and bidding was fairly brisk for the various descriptions of stock, most of which showed good condition. Some hill country sheep of sound constitution attracted notice. Details of the offering are as under:— FAT CATTLE. One prime heavy cow sold at £2 15/-; 1 fair Jersey heifer, £1 7/6; 3 Jersey cows, £1 5/-; 1 Hereford cow, £2 15/-; 2 do. £1 17/6; 4 Hereford cows, £2 17/6; 2 Hereford steers, fair finish, £3 5/-; 1 stag, £2 7/6; 2 good cows, £2 17/6; 1 bullock, plain, £3 5/-; 2 yellow Jersey steers, £3 5/-; 1 dark Jersey steer, £2 17/6; 2 light Jersey steers, £2 5/-; 2 young steers, £1 17/6. FAT STOCK. The entry totalled 490, and the sale :
was up to recent values. A few pens made low'er figures than usual, but this was due to lack of quality, and all good sheep met with the ruling competition. Ewes ranged from 4/10 to 6/7, lambs from 9/4 to 12/1, and wethers from 9/3 to 9/7. Second grade ewes brought 2/- to 3/11. Prices: Ewes.—lB, 5/7; 33, 6/1; 26, 5/2; 57, 5/11; 15, 5/-; 22, 6/4; 19, 6/-; 15, 5/1; 6, 4/10; 22, 5/1; 19, 5/-; 27, 4/10; 14, 6/7; 20, 5/2. Lambs.—l2, ’Down, 9/8; 4, 12/1; 2, 9/4. Wethers.—4, 9/7; 8, 9/3. Second grade owes. —18, 3/10; 14, 3/4; 18, 3/9; 18, 3/6; 27, 3/11; 25, 3/4; 28, 3/-. STORE SHEEP. About 2000 store sheep were offered before the luncheon adjournment, and bidding was reasonably brisk, there being a good demand for all good lines. Values were sustained. Six-year ewes brought from 4/4 to 5/6, 4-year ewes 8/-, 3-ycar ewes 8/-, 4-th 8/4 to 8/10, and 2-ths up to 8/1. Lambs brought 7/6 for good well-grown woolly pens, and 5/10 for fairly good pens. Wethers sold from 7/10 to 8/5. Prices:— Young ewes. —48, 2-th, small and in good order, 6/7; 25, 6-th, all highcountry, 8/-; 117, 4-ths, very good size and condition, 8/1; 68, 8-ths, good store condition, and good frames, 8/-; 57, 4-th, as last, 8/10; 76, 4-ths, good store condition, 8/4. Wethers.—276, 2 and 4-th, mostly the former, in good order, 7/10; 226, 2 and 4-th, medium condition, 8/-; 283, a good pen, good condition, some fat, 8/3; 116, 2-th, good store condition, 8/5. Ewes.—l 24, sound mouthed and hard condition, 3/4; 107, guaranteed mouths, in fairly good order, good frames, 5/6; 123, 3 and 5-year, guaranteed, good store condition, 6/5; 76, 4-ths, good condition, 8/5; 77, 6-year, good store condition, 4/4. Lambs.—279, well grown, woolly, and in fairly good condition, 7/8; 95, fairly good size and condition, 5/10.
