LEAVING PORT AT THE COMMENCEMENT OF A VOYAGE FROM AUCKLAND TO TAHITI. The Auckland-built deep-sea fishing launch Frangipani, owned by Mr. Zane Grey, the novelist and deep-sea fisherman, passing the liner Wanganella, berthed at Queen’s Wharf. Auckland, at the start of the voyage to Papetee, Tahiti, via Rarotonga, last Friday. The launch was loaded with benzine weighing approximately eight tons as fuel for the trip of 1633 miles to Rarotonga. It is stated that the trip of 2253 miles to Tahiti will be the longest ever made by an ordinary motor launch.
