The death is announced from Brisbane of Mr George P. Smith, manager of the Australian Provident Life Assurance Company in Australia. Ho formerly resided in New Zealand.

The engagement is announced of Olive Alison, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Rose, “Kohinui,’’ Pahiatua, to Andrew William, only son of Mrs A. L. Black and the late Andrew Black, of Takapau, Hawke’s Bay.

Miss Joan Braddell, who will be remembered as a resident of Hastings a good few years back, and now of Wanganui, has been appointed a staff nurse at Napier Hospital and will take up duty there shortly.

Mr Will Appleton, of Wellington, who shortly intends leaving for England, has been appointed to represent the New Zealand Society of Accountants at the international congress on accounting to be held in London in July.

The engagement is announced from London of the Hou. Benjamin Ludlow Bathurst and Miss Joan Krishaber. The Hon. B. L. Bathurst is the son and heir of Lord Bledisloe, GovernorGeneral of New Zealand. He is 33 years of age.

An old resident of Southland Mr Albert Adams, died at Winton on "Monday at the age of 83. The late Mr Adams was born in Victoria and camo to New Zealand as a boy with his parents. Last October ho celebrated hrs golden wedding, when festivities were held attended by relatives and friends from far and near, tho wedding of a granddaughter being solemnised on the same day. Tho late Mr Adams leaves a widow and a family of eight, as well as 38 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A former Wellington and Wairarapa Rugby representative, Mr John Sinclair Johnson, died at his residence, Lowry Bay, on Tuesday afternoon, at the age of 63. The late Mr Johnson was born in the Shetland Islands in 1870 and came to New Zealand with his parents in 1878. As a young man, the late Mr Johnson was a keen sportsman. He took an active interest in yachting, and for many years was a prominent footballer in Wellington. He was one of the founders of the Melrose Football Club, and as an active player represented Wellington and Wairarapa. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mr lan Johnson and Miss Reni Johnson.
