NEW YEAR DIARY
POINTS TO REMEMBER. BUSINESS CLOSING DAYS. The holiday period resumes again this week-end for the New Year, and the following information as to the closing days of shops and other businesses will be of assistance to “Tribune” readers:— No bread will be baked on Monday or Tuesday, and supplies will have to be obtained to-morrow to last over till Wednesday. Dairies will open until midday, then from 4.30 to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and the usual hours will be observed on Sunday. Fruiterers’ shops close only on Sunday. Tobacconists will remain open tomorrow evening till 10.30 o’clock. Chemists will be closed the same as the retailers, but people in urgent need of medicine may ring their chemist at his residence. The following arrangements have been made by tne Hastings Retailers’ Association as to the observance of holidays for the New Year: — Shops will be .closed all day on Monday and Tuesday, January 2 and 3. They will remain open untjl 9.30 o’clock to-morrow (Saturday) night and will also be open all day on Thursday, January 5. The Public Library will close on Monday and Tuesday, and the same holidays will be observed by the Women’s Rest and Plunket rooms. The banks will close on Monday and Tuesday. The Department of Agriculture closes to-morrow and will not re-open until Wednesday. The same applies to the office of the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at the Oourthquse.
