FIREFIGHTERS’ DEMONSTRATION

annual competition IN HASTINGS. FIVE BRIGADES TAKE PART. An event of some moment to the younger fire-fighters in Hawke’s Bay was held at Hastings on Saturday afternoon, when the annual competition for brigadesmen who have not competed at a New Zealand Fire Brigades’ -demonstration was held at Nelson Park. The Tomoana Brigade had charge of the arrangements, and there was a large crowd of interested spectators who found much interest in the excellent work performed by the tire-fighters. The competitions were contested by representatives of the Hastings, HaveItock North, Tomoana, Napier and Wairoa brigades, and the results were as follow:— One-man event: Hastings A, 41 3-5 secs., 1; Havelock North A, 43 2-ssecs., 2; Hastings B, 46secs., 3. Thirtythree competitors. Two-men event: Havelock North B, 37sccs., 1; Napier A, 40 l-ssecs., 2' Hastings B, 43 l-ssecs., 3. Eleven competitors. Three-men event: Hastings A, 50 1-5 secs., 1; Hastings B, 52 2-Jsecs., 2; Napier A, 60 2-ssecs., 3. Eight teams competed. Four-men, motor event: Havelock North, 54 3-ssecs., 1; Hastings, 55 4-5 secs., 2,; Tomoana, 5 81-ssecs., 3. Also competed, Napier and Wairoa. In the evening an enjoyable smoko concert and social evening was held in the Bandroom, where the presentation of prizes was made.
