CABLES IN BRIEF German Plane Missing. A German air mail freighter carrying a pilot and mechanic left. Croydon during a gale at 8.55 p.m. and sent an SOS at 9.37 p.m., not indicating its position in the Channel. A Dover lifeboat and ships searched all night but round no trace of the craft. Australian Loan Approved. The Premiers’ Conference at Melbourne has been notified that the banks have agreed on an internal loan of £8,000,000 at 3} per cent, for ten years at par, £4,000,000 of which will be devoted to public works in the various States and the remainder for funding Treasury bills. Tho Ottawa Debates. The political parties have agreed to conclude the Ottawa debates in the House of Commons on Thursday, thus saving three parliamentary days, which will be devoted to a discussion on unemployment from all angles. Communists In Tokio. Sentences were imposed on Communists in the Tokio district court yesterday as follow: The four ringleaders, life imprisonment; six others, ten to fifteen years; 87 from two to nine years. The prosecutor demanded the death penalty for the leaders. Manabu Sano, the most distinguished prisoner, announced his intention to appeal. He denounced the police for the exploitation of a recent bank robbery as Communist work.

Now French Liner Launched. At St. Nazaire, the liner President Doumer, now named Normandie, was launched by Madame Le Brun. It is not expected that it will be completed before 1934. Alleged Fraud. A message from St. Johns, Newfoundland, states that Roland Starkes, Opposition member of the Legislature for White Bay, was arrested on 17 charges of fraud in connection with the distribution of relief to the unemployed. The police laid the charge that Starkes fraudulently signed dole receipts during a period of several months. He was released on bail. New South Wales Dole. Due to the overhauling of dole payments, extra vigilance is minimising Imposition. It is officially believed that a saving of £2,000,000 will be effected this year on the New South Wales dole. Cabinet will shortly consider a lowering of the wage tax. Kreuger Toll Auditors. Troom, Lindenerona and Bergen, auditors of Kruger Toll, were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for neglect of duties. Torsten Kreuger, charged with fraud in connection with the Hogbrofors Wood-pulp Company, of which he was a director, endeavoured to shift responsibility for the manipulations to his dead brother. Now Cotton Crisis. A crisis has developed consequent on a delegate meeting of the operative spinners’ amalgamation overwhelmingly refusing to ratify last week’s agreement. The spinners won’t resume today in mills where the new terms are enforced, affecting 200,000 workers in Lancashire, including cardroom operatives.
