THE V.R.C. DERBY SENSATIONAL RACE. LIBERAL’S CONVINCING WIN (United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 31, 10.45 a.m.) Sydney, Oct. 31. The “Herald” says: “The V.R.ODerby was most sensational Liberal’s win -over Gaine Carrington was cons vineing, and Gaine Carrington’» rels* gatioa of Top Hole to third place was equally convincing. Before the start Turbine kicked J. Munro on the leg, causing a painful time while he di* mounted and exercised the leg. Ths start was delayed as a result. “At the entrance to the straight a mix-up occurred; Kuvcra, who was among the leaders, almost fell and his rider, McCarten, was thrown. Turbins made the pace for Oro but weakened in the concluding stage. Gaine Carrington was not disgraced. Ms had charge at the straight entrance and just beat off Top Hole, but was unable to stave off Liberal's challenge. Gains Carrington’s rider was over-anxious and asked his horse too much in showing the way over two furlongs, though it is unlikely that he could have beats* Liberal in any ease.” The “Telegraph” saysf "Doubts about Liberal’s staying capacity were shattered by his brilliant finish in ths Derby. Munro saved him for the last run and the colt responded.** A.R.O. SCRATCHINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Oct. 31.
