OTANE NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent. Hay-making has commenced in this district and some very good cuts of lucerne have been obtained. The stress of the times is causing more attention to be given to this valuable plant and an increased area is being sown this year. This refers more particularly to the dairy farms, and, also a product of the times, a few milking cows are now to be seen on most farms. Rainfall for the month so far is just over half an inch. As the fall since the beginning of June is under six inches, a heavy rain soon would relieve the farming community of a lot of anxiety. Mr R. 8. Stedman, of Levin, paid a week-end visit to Otane renewing old acquaintances. The many friends of Mr K. Dawkins, who has been seriously ill for many weeks, will be pleased to hear that his condition is improving.
