PROLIFIC EWE DIES
24 LAMBS IN SEVEN YEARS. The death has occurred of “Betty,” the nine-year-old pet ewe of Master Tommy Spittles, the son of Mr H. Spittles, a farmer of Meadlee, near Princess Risborough, says the “Live Stock Journal.” “Betty” died in giving birth to seven lambs, which brings her total up to 24 in seven years. Betty, who was brought up on a feeding bottle, gave birth to triplets when she was two years old, and altogether she had triplets five times and twins once. By reason of her prolific breeding “Betty” was the originator of Mr Spittles’s whole flock, and as several of her lambs have had triplets and twins, the flock now numbers between 50 and 60. When two years of age Betty was sheared for the first time, and yielded 17jlb. of wool.
