HASTINGS WEST SCHOOL
ENJOYABLE CONCERT HELD. VISIT OF ORPHANS’ HARMONICA BAND. The Hastings West School was well filled with children and parents last night when the Hastings Orphans’ Club’s Harmonica Band concert party presented a most novel and enjoyable concert in aid of the school funds. The first part of the programme comprised items given in costume by the band, songs by Orphans D. Sturm and F. Murtagh; humourous numbers by Orphan J. Le Compte and Orphan F. Marchant and his pal “Pat”; banjo solo s by Orphan H. Barden; mouthorgan duets by Orphans D. Sturm and E. Nuttall, and eommunity choruses. In the second part Orphan E .H. Culver gave an entertaining display of magic, this being followed by an oldtime revue, which introduced many oldtime choruses. That the items were appreciated was proved by the terrific applause and the insistent demand for encores of every item, and as a result of the concert the school funds should benefit very considerably. At the conclusion of the concert the entertainers were given a most enjoyable supper by the ladies’ committee.
