HASTINGS BOROUGH AFFAIRS
USUAL COUNCIL MEETING. ITEMS OF INTEREST TO RATEPAYERS The regular meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last evening, the Deputy Mayor (Ci*. R. Henderson) presiding in the absence of the Mayor (Mr. G F. Roach) who was in Wellington attending a deputation to the Minister of Public Works regarding municipal electrical undertakings. Others present were Crs. P. M. Cohr, P. Loach, O. H. Slater, F. E. Smith, T. Donovan, R. Baker, J. Simmons and G. W. McCormick. The Hastings Red Cross Society made application for permission to erect a red-cross used literature box in the vicinity of the Heretaunga street railway crossing.—Referred to the Works Committee to arrange a locality. The Hastings Carnival Committee applied for the erection of some strings of coloured electric lights across Heretaunga street during carnival week, and asking the council to undertake the erection and maintenance of these lights.—Granted. The Treasury forwarded a voucher for £39 being the annual charge for water and sewerage services to fifteen raihvay cottages.—Received. Regarding the rateabilit.v of tenanted Government properties the Harbour Boards’ Association wrote in reply, expressing the view that the Association would be willing to consider joining forces with the Municinhl Association, if it was approached through a member of its .own Association, or through the Municipal Association. — As a rcplv frc*n the Napier Harbour Board was not tn hand, the matter was held ove. until the next meeting,
