SECOND MATCH AT PERTH TWO CENTURIES SCORED. SUTCLIFFE AND PATAUDL Perth, Oct. 27. There is ideal weather, sunshine and a good fast wicket for the match in which England is meeting the combined team, including Bradman. The teams are:— England: Jardine (captain), Allen, Pataudi, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Duckworth, Ames, Leyland, MitchelL Verity, Paynter; Bowes twelfth man. Combined team: Bryant (captain), Martin, Lovelock, Evans, Hill, Smith, Halcombe, Inverarity (West Australia), Lonergan, V. Richardson (S.A.), Bradman, Fingletqn, McCabe (N.S.W.). The attendance was 11,000 and the gate £BB3. England won the toss and elected to bat on a perfect wicket. Leyland was out to McCabe in the second over. Pataudi and Sutcliffe, playing careful Jy, topped the century. There were many changes of bowling, Bradman, Halcombe, McCabe, Martin and Evans being tried, but they did not show much sting. The play was generally slow, relieved by smart fielding, especially by Bradman, who returned marvellously, also by the artistic strokes of Pataudi. Sutcliffe, solid and slow, marie attractive strokes all round the wicket. He got 169 in 235 minutes. He hit one sixer and 16 hours. Pataudi was extremely strong on leg strokes. He gave another fine display. The century was got in 180 minutes. He hit 11 fours. Hammond gave his usual display of forceful defence, at times going halfway down the pitch to meet slow balls. His footwork was beautiful. Ames was not in for a sufficient time to show his qualities. McCabe was the best bowler, the batsmen/ treating him with great respect. The local men were wall pasted. The fielding was excellent, especially that of Bradman. Scores:— ENGLAND. First Innings.
