SPRING SHOW

ADVICE TO VISITORI .THE MORE POPULAR FEATURES. BECOBD ENTRIES. Most encouraging support is being given the Hawke’s Bay A and ft Society’s Spring Show, which is to b« held on the show grounds at Tomoana on Wednesday and Thursday next A record number of entries havU been received, the exhibits being o£ such a wide range as to provide iaa terest for all sections of the public. The grounds, which are the pride of the society, are most attractive Following a most favourable season, stock have done particularly well, ana those interested can anticipate seeing exhibits of a particularly high staa. dard. In the sheep section great in* terest is being taken in the new class for three ewe hoggets, which are being judged on the quality of breed* ing ewe meat and wool values, fo« which purpose the services of three judges have been secured. As an Ulus* tration of the interest being taken, a total of 33 entries in this class have been received. One of the most pleasing feature* of the show is the revival of interest in the draught horse section, which shows that in a short time Clydesdales will again occupy the pride of place as in former days. The ring events promise to be among the best yet seen in Hawke’s Bay as many of the leading outside horses will be competing against the local champions. DOG SECTION. As a result of the activities of the Hawke’s Bay Kennel Club, increasing interest is being taken in the dog section, tjie parade of which will take place at 1.30 p.m. on People’s Day, being led by the Highland Pipe Band. This will be followed by the grand parade of stock at 2 p.m., and in view of the largely increased entries in the hosse sections this should be of special interest. In the produce hall a most interesting exhibition is being staged by members of the Women’s Institute, demonstrations of weaving taking place as well as actual working in various other handicrafts. PARKING ARRANGEMENTS.

The question of parking has received careful consideration and every possible provision is being made for easy handling of the traffic; more particularly during the rush period wheu leaving the grounds. On the first day the members’ paddock from the main entrance in Karamu road and also in Elwood road will be used, any overflow being directed to the parking area adjoining the cattle paddock. On People’s Day all the parking area will be available. A new exit for pedestrians has been provided on the left of the main exit in Karamu road for ’bus passengers, and a notice board has been erected giving necessary instructions. An innovation is the provision of a roadside box where ’bus passengers may obtain tickets and so avoid undue crowding and discomfort. Ab in the past exhibitors have been instructed as to the various gates to be taken for the entrance of stock and ia order to avoid confusion a careful observance of these instructions is requested. PICNICKERS CATERED FOR. For those who delight in picnicking the usual adequate supply of not water will be available and with the ample shade provided by the willows an out- . door luncheon should be refreshing. As usual, there will be many sideshows. The H.B. Society is fortunate in that its date does not clash with other fixtures, and in consequence it has one of the most varied collections of sideshows in the Dominion. The Hastings Citizens’ Band will be in attendance and will delight the public with popular selections. As in the past the ladies of the Plunket Society of Napier and Hastings will be in charge of the Ooleman Memorial building, where the usual facilities will be available to mothers and young children. The Boy Scouts will again be there in full force and will have a tent where parcels may be left for safe keeping. On Thursday morning at 10.30 a.m. Mr A. L. Wheeler, the well-known Romney judge, will give a lecture in the sheep pavilion which should be of special interest to breeders.
