DESTRUCTION OP AVIATION WORKS. £lOO,OOO DAMAGE DONE. London, October 12. Damage to the extent of £lOO,OOO was done by a mysterious fire which destroyed the Fairy Aviation Company’s experimental works at Hamble, including ten of the world’s fastest seaplanes, which were being tested before delivery to the fleet air arm. One was saved.
The fire originated in the main office and spread so rapidly that the huge wooden building was a burning mass before the brigades could get to work. Fifty feet flames were seen 20 miles away.
