AUCKLAND JOCKEY BACK
RETURN OF H. N. WIGGINS. MAY RIDE TN MELBOURNE CUP The light-weight horseman H. N. Wiggins returned from Sydney by the Zealandia and will bo riding at Avondale on Saturday, when he will steer Greek Gold, Coronis and Sea Ruler. Wiggins was away in Australia for three months. Tt is possible that Wiggins may return to Australia to ride the New Zealand horse Havering in the Melbourne Cup. Havering won the Sydney
Handicap, li mile, at Randwick last Wednesday, carrying 8.4, and has 7.13 in the Melbourne Cup. Wiggins said he would not know until final acceptance day, Tuesday. October 25, and if required he would leave by the Mariposa that day, which would enable him to arrive in Melbourne in comfortable time for the race on the following Tuesday, November 1. Wiggins expressed the opinion that the A.J.C. Derby winner, Peter Pan, would be very hard to beat in both th. Melbourne and the Caulfield Cups. He thought that Havaspot’s brother, Dermid, also had a distinct chance in the Caulfield Cup. With Peter Pan out of the way he considered Gaine Carrington would have good prospects in the Victoria Derby. Wiggins did not have any success riding at the metropolitan meetings in Sydney, but he steered two winners at once of’the country meetings He rode a considerable amount of work at Randwick and among the horses he rode on occasions were the Epsom Handicap winner, Chatham, Pentheus and Rosendo. Wiggins stated that Chatham made a noise, but was a very attractive galloper.
