UNWILLING PASSENGER
TRIP ON ZEALANDIA. RETURNING TO SYDNEY, Auckland, Oct. 12. An unwilling passenger arrived at Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday. An hour or so before the vessel left Sydney last Friday, a young Dutchman, Mr. W. Van Lamme, strolled on board. He said he sat down to write, became engrossed in what he was doing,' and had no recollection of anything else until he discovered that the Zealandia was steaming out of Sydney Harbour. Mr. Van Lamme had only 2/6 in his possession at the time, but when he realised his position he reported to the captain, said that he had no desire to go to New Zealand, but had sufficient money to pay his return fare on landing back in Sydney. He was given first-class accommodation. After the arrival of the Zealandia yesterday, Mr. Van Lamme’s case was considered by representatives of the shipping company and the Immigration Department, together with the Consul for the Netherlands. It was then decided that as he did not have his passport in his possession he would have to stay on board the vessel and return on her to Sydney.
