DOMESTIC ORCHARDS

AMENDED INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPRAYING.

, In the paragraph published recently dealing with the above subject, two errors appeared in the particulars of “Time to Spray.” For the guidance of orchardists, we publish hereunder amended instructions:— “For the purpose of controlling black spot on apples and pears, also powdery mildew on apples, it is an appropriate time now to apply lime sulphur on apples and any pears not in full bloom. The strength to use immediately is 8 liquid ounces to 4 gallons of water. As soon as the petals have fallen, spraying for the control of codlin moth should begin. Arsenate of lead is the material used, and it may be combined with lime sulphur, which should be continued with as summer spray. On apples and pears lime sulphur and arsenate of lead should be used throughout the summer at intervals ol not more than 17-21 days in the following proportions: Arsenate of lead (powder), Ijoz. to 4 gallons of water; lime sulphur, 31 liquid ounces to 4 gallons of water.”
