BLAY TOO GOOD

SEVERE BOXING CONTEST. TROWERN PUNISHED. Wellington, Oct. 12. That master of ring-craft strength, Bobby Blay, of Australia, gave Reg. Trowern, of Auckland, a boxing lesson at the Winter Show Stadium before a large audience last night. Trowern fought with all his characteristic gameness, but he made a mistake in carrying the fight to such a hardhitting opponent. With swift right crosses, followed by left hooks, the Australian put the Aucklander down three times in the second round; and felted him again in the fourth, eighth, and ninth rounds. Trowern was exhausted after the last knock-down, and it came as no surprise when the referee, Mr E. Perry, was called over to the Aucklander’s corner at the interval. After a brief consultation the referee announced, “Trowern retires; Blay the winner.”
