OBITUARY

MRS ANTHONY WALL. Through the death of Mrs Anthony Wall', that took place at the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, on Sunday, Porirua loses one of its oldest inhabitants. With her parents, the late Mr and Mrs T. Stace, of Pkhautanui, Mrs Wall arrived in Wellington from Tasmania in 1853. After a few months in that city the family removed to Pahautanui, where they engaged in farming pursuits. The Wall family at this time( 1853) also took up their abode on the Porirua-Paremata road, the family still retaining their original ‘holding in the locality, and where the late Mrs Wai] has spent 67 years of her life.

The late Mrs Wall was married at Porirua in 1865. and had many anecdotes to relate regarding the hardships of the early pioneers who in those days did not have the privileges enjoyed by country residents to-day. Mrs Wall was always known for her hospitality and kindness to wayfarers in the early days, their old home on the road being a haven of rest with travellers. Mr Wall predeceased his wife in 1901. Mrs Wall is survived by five sons—Dr. Wall (Wanganui), Mr Frank Wall (Martinborough), Mr Reg. Wall (Pukerua Bay), Mr Percy Wall (Waipukurau), ana Mr Leonard Wall ■ (Palmerston North). She also leaves two daughters, Mrs W. Hand-Newtown (Christchurch), and Mrs Basil Taylor (Christchurch).
