ENGLAND’S TEST TEAM. PAYNTER REPLACES DULEEPSINHJI. 'United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 1, 10.30 a.m.) London, Aug. 31. It is officially stated that in view or Duleepsinhji’s illness Paynter has been added to the team that is to go to Australia. Duleepsinhji will be unable to sail on September 17 but it is hoped that he will be able to join the team later. Paynter’s choice is a surprise to most critics as it was expected that Tyldesley would be chosen if another batsman was needed, or James Langridge if an all-rounder was wanted.
Paynter is slightly built and is a good fieldsman but fails to suggest great confidence when he goes to the wicket, at which he adopts a rather cramped stance. He is a strong hitter when once set. He has been the opening batsman for Lancashire this season, so he may be Sutcliffe’s partner. GAMES IN ENGLAND. (Received 1, 10.30 a.m.) London, Aug. 31.
