BRITISH ARMY IN INDIA
CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS TRAINING EXPENDITURE. TRIBUNAL SET UP. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1, 12.30 p.m.) Rugby, Aug 31. The British Goveinuient in an agreement with the Government of India decided to set up a tribunal to: (1) Consider and report whether, and if so on what basis, there should continue to be contributions by India towards the recruiting and training expenses at Home of the British Army in India. (2) To examine India’s claim that a contribution should be made from the Imperial revenues towards the miliary expenditure from India revenues. (3) To examine the War Office claim that India should pay a direct contribution towards the cost of regular and supplementary reserves. (4) To consider whether the sea transport contribution pan) by the War Office to India should be continued or modified after March 31, 1932. (5) To examine the report of Mutatis Mutandis on such of the questions raised in the preceding paragraphs as are relevant to the contribution at present paid from Indian revenue in respect to the personnel in India. Sir Robert Garran, lately SolicitorGeneral to the Commonwealth Government in Australia, will act as chairman. Associated with him will be Lord Tqmlin, Lord Dunedin (nominated by the British Government) and Sir Sbadi Lal and Sir Muhammad Salaiman (nominated by the Government of India.) The proceedings of the tribunal will be confidential, and its report, which is to be made to the Prime Minister will be an advisory one Its recommendations, therefore, are not to be binding on either Government. Arrangements are being made for the tribunal to assemble in London early in November.
