MATAWHERO STOCK SALE

A DRAGGING MARKET. There was a very large yarding of fat sheep at the Matawhero stock sale yesterday (reports the "Poverty Bay Herald”), and the sale was dragging, with a downward tendency. Best sorts of ewes made from 6/- 6/8, but generally ewes sold between 5/- and 6/-. Lambs made 7/9 and 7/10, and secondgrade ewes 3/6. A good many pens were passed in.

Prices were:— Ewes.—sl at 5/6; 40, 5/6; 25, 6/4; 7, 5/9; 29, 5/10; 15, 5/4; 20, 5/6; 40, 5/7; 35 prime Lincoln, 6/7; 92, 4/6; 58, 5/8; 20. 6/6; 20, 6/8; 11, 5/1; 20, 5/9; 35, 5/10; 34, 5/10; 65, 2-ths, fairly good size, good store condition, 8/6; 35, 2-ths, ’Downs, killable, 8/3; 8, good condition, with 8 lambs, 11/9. Lambs. —9 at 7/9; 8, 7/10. STORE SHEEP. The bulk of the entry of store sheep sold before lunch at prices similar to those ruling at the previous sale. Breeding ewes of good quality and condition, up to 5 years, guaranteed and r.w. ’Down rams, made 8/10 and 10/-; others, in fairly good order, and young, made 7/4; hoggets made 8/5 for wellgrown woolly ones, and good shorn hoggets made 7/1; good class medium size hoggets made 6/4 to 6/10; wethers made 8/11 to 9/6, and empty ewes, which were not very attractive, brought 2/6 to 3/6. Prices:— Empty Ewes.—64/ good, forward, 3/6; 33, fair condition, 3/3; 39, fair condition, 3/3. Wethers.—22, good fresh stores, 9/6; 86, average stores, 9/8; 32, fresh condition, 8/11; 15, fair stores, 6/9. Hoggets.—l24 good frame, shorn wethers, 7/10; 114, big, good condition, woolly ewes, 8/5; 107 medium size, fairly good condition, woolly, 6/4; 36, fresh condition, fairly good size, 6/70; 82 shorn, good size, fresh condition, 7/7; 71, good, woolly, 7/8; 70, good size and condition, woolly, 7/11; 25, fresh condition, fair size 46/9; 18 fresh condition, fairly good size, 7/1.
