SENIOR COMPETITION TE AUTE v. ONGA ONGA. WIN FOR THE LATTER. (From Our Special Representative.) Waipukurau, July 30. At Bussell Park, Waipukurau, today, Te Aute met Onga Onga in the senior competition. The day was ideal for the game, and the ground was in good order. The teams lined out as follows:—

Te Aute (Ked_). —Newton, Goldsmith, Ruru, Rile, donga, Merrett, Rene, E. Grace, Crawford, Parker, Kaugi Paerata, Waititi, b'tiku Emery. Onga Onga (Blue and Black).—Ross, B. lieemanlle, Ross, Mawson, Haldane, Chute, bpackman, A. Walker, Phillips, Douglas, Anderson, Crawley, Turfrey, Dossier, Buchanan. Onga early camo away, the ball going into touch near the flag. On the throwin Buchanan scored for Onga from a loose rush. Chute converted. Ona Onga 5 Te Aute 0 Te Aute atacked hotly, risking several determined sorties, but two long kicks threw them back to their twentyfive. Phillips featured in a good dribbling rush from a scrum on the twenty-five, the ball going over the line. Dassler touched down for a surprise try wide out. Buchanan converted with a brilliant kick. Onga Onga Te Aute 0 Onga continued to hold the upper hand. Goldsmith put in a good run before passing to Burn, who kicked well down. The advantage was, however lost, the pass being forward. To Aute forwards swept away in a good dribbling rush, but the Blue full-back, Freemantle, scooped up nicely and cleared from near half-way. The Red backs initiated a passing rush, but Ruru was smothered when attempting to cut .in, Haldane getting possession and making a good run to the twenty-five, but his pass to Baker went astray.

Onga continued to press, but Pile cleared to near half-way with a good line kick. The Beds tried to open up the game, but invariably broke down through holding on too long.

Te Aute looked dangerous in a rush. Gaining possession in the scrum, Pene let the ball out, Goldsmith finally handling, and he cut in, but was blocked, pile lining near the twenty-five. Half-time sounded soon after with Te Aute attacking. Onga Onga 10 Te Aute 0 SECOND SPELL. Playing against the sun, Te Aute appeared to be hampered and a long kick coming down to Newton found him caught in possession, but he cleared magnificently to the half-way line. With a penalty awarded a moment later from a scrum near halfway Merrett kicked through strongly to the twenty-five but a loose rush by the Blue forwards threw the Reds back past half-way. From a line-out Chute secured possession and cut through but his pass was smothered. Onga continued to attack but the ball went too far, Newton having time to force.

Te Aute came away, the. forwards being responsible but Wadsworth cleverly marked and found touch well down. From the throw-in Te Aute secured possession and kicked down the field. Phillips marked and from practically a standing position landed a nice goal thirty-five yards out and practically in front. Onga Onga —..... 13 Te Aute 0 Onga did the majority of the attacking, Haldane being prominent with a good kick from near half-way. A moment later Buchanan had a fruitless attempt to goal from a penalty shot, the ball falling under the bar. Newton was conspicuous in the ensuing play, making a desperate effort to open it up Rum collected the leather from loose play in the Blue territory and put in a strong run and passed to Pile, who scored at the corner. The Red backs flashed away, Goldsmith handling . last and kicking strongly upfield with the rest of the Red men in hot pursuit, but the bounce beat everyone and a certain try went astray.
