HAWKE’S BAY UNION. management committee MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Hawke's Bay Bugby Union was held last night, when there were present: Messrs J. W. Norrie (chairman), B. Tweedie G. A. Maddison, W. O’Neill, J. Taylor, H. V. Phillips, A. Kirkpatrick, E. A. Young, A. D. Lynch, li. Al. Hewitt, N. A .McKenzie, W. D. Corbett, J. W. Callaghan and the president, Mr W. T. Foster. An application was made by the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association for the union to arrange a beneiit match in order to assist the finances necessary for the proposed southern tour of the Hawke’s Bay cricket representatives.— Mr McKenzie suggested that it might be possible to arrange something for October 31, which was the end of the Rugby season and the commencement of the cricket season, the cricket association helping in the management of the occasion. The matter was finally left in the hands of the chairman and Messrs Callaghan and AlcKenzie to get in touch with the Cricket Association on the matter. A letter was received from the East Coast Sub-union stating that the date of September 17, fixed for the match against Napier-Hastings was rather late in the season for that district and suggested that an earlier date be fixed if possible—The matter was loft to the fixtures committee to deal with. It was decided to make the usual charges at Napier next Saturday when the Wairarapa-Hawkc’s Bay junior representative game and the Gisborne High School-Napicr High School match will be played. As ’a result of a request from the Central Hawke’s Bay Sub-union to play the final of the primary school Ross Shield competition on August 20 as a curtain-raiser to the Te AuteVictoria College match, it was decided to reply that the arrangement was suitable. The Dannevirke Sub-union advised that owing to the difficulty or finance it was impossible to entertain a visit to Wairoa unless the Hawke's Bay Union came to their assistance.—lt was decided to inform the Wairoa Sub-union of the position. The Poverty Bay Union wrote confirming August 27 as a suitable date for the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay match at Gisborne. A donation of £1 Is was made to the

Otago Union, which is holding a benefit day On July 23 for Mr J. Duncan and the widow of the late Mr A. Eckhold. CELTIC TEAM’S COMPLAINT. The opinion held by members of the Celtic senior team that they should receive more consideration in the allocation of grounds when playing in Napier was voiced by Mr W. O’Neill. The Celtic team had come into Napier on four occasions, said Mr O’Neill, and each time they had had to play on No. 2 ground. It was the only Hastings team which had not had a game on No. 1, where it thought it should have at least played one. The team always played a good game and it thought that it had been rather unjustly treated. It was pointed out by Mr B. Tweedie, a member of the fixtures committee, that the teams which would provide the best game were put on No. 1 ground and it so happened that Celtic was not engaged in what was the best game. His committee always endeavoured to give each team at least one game on No. 1 ground and he thought that until this season, Celtic had no cause for complaint. He quite agreed that Mr O’Neill was justified in bringing the matter up,
