ELSTHORPE EVENTS
From Our Own Correspondent. A very enjoyable kitehen tea was given by Mrs R. S. Macaulhy of Rosewood, for her niece, Miss Jean Macaulay, who marriage takes place next week. A large assortment of useful kitchen utensils was received by the bride to be, who thanked all present for their gifts and good wishes. Personal. Miss Gibb, who has for the past two years been assistant mistress at the Elsthorpe School, has received notice of her appointment to the staff of the Little River School, Canterbury, School Committee. A meeting of the Elsthorpe School committee was held on Monday evening, when there were present Messrs McGaffin (chairman), Macaulay, Priest and Sutherland. The head teacher reported that the roU was 42 and the average attendance for June was 39.6. The resignation of Miss Gibb was accepted with regret It was decided to close for the Patangata Ploughing Match on July 13. Preliminary arrangements were made for the school ball to be held on August 5. It was decided to write to the Central 11.8. Rugby Union, thanking them for the donation of a football for the school. Repairs to the asphalt are to be carried out in the holidays.
