NEWS AND NOTES. The second round for the E. li. White Cup was played on Saturday. There was a good muster of players but scores were considerably below the usual standard, the best net scores being as under: — Grs hep nett J. A. Grant ... 90 18 72 J. O’Dowd ... 91 16 75 S. Hodges ... 103 20 83 G Davies ... 110 24 86 A fine spectacular game was seen at Takapau on Saturday afternoon when the local senior team met Ongaonga in the cup match. The game was in a way dominated by the superior play of the Takapau

backs. The score in the first half was Takapau 3, Ongaonga nil. In the second half Takapau annexed two more tries (unconverted) and Onga also crossed the line making the score at the call of time, Takapau 9, Onga 3. All Pohill, Waipukurau. was an efficient referee.

A friendly football match was clayed at Takapau on Saturday the contestants being the Norsewood and Takapau school teams. The match was fairly even, supenoi forward play by the Takapau team gaining the advantage in the score Takapau 16 points to Norsewood 9.

Mr T. Hanita very capably and efficiently controlled the game A basketball match was also played at Takapau by the Norsewood and Takapau schoolgirls. The game was refereed by Miss Ashcroft, Norsewood, and Miss Gloyn, Takapau. The game was a very fast uno and evenly contested and ran out with Takapau the winners by 14 goals to 8. At the annual meeting ol St. -Mark’s Church parishioners, it was decided to form a social club to assist in the social work ot the parish. The election of officers of the club resulted m Mr C. H. St. Hill being elected patron and the Rev. Blathwayt as president, treasurer Mr C. Pease; masters of ceremonies, Air AV. T. Smith and G. Speedy; joint secretaries. Alisses P. Cato and V. Hutchinson; club captain Air J. W. Cato. A strong committee was elected, viz; — Mrs Bayliss, Misses Cato, Hutchinson, Hawkins, Allen, A. Ellis, Al. Hobson, Messrs Arthur Baylis, AV. Ellinghani, E. Hawkins, C. H. Pease, AV. T Smith, A Livingstone, R. Ellis and G. Speedy Arrangements are well in hand for the first social evening to he held on Thursday June 23 in the Town Hall supper room at 8 p.m. The success of the evening is assured as the committee is sparing no effort to make the social bright and pleasing to all who attend.

Parishioners are requested to bring along their friends and to assist in every way possible to ensure the success of the committees’ efforts on behalf ot the parish. It is understood these social gatherings will be held monthly.
