(Before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M.) TODAY’S PROCEEDINGS. James Wairea was charged with failing to send his child to school. He pleaded guilty. He was ordered to pay Court costs 15/-. John Henry William Forrest was charged with cutting the corner. He pleaded guilty, adding that he cut the corner to avoid running into a girl on a bicycle. Unfortunate® he did not success in his effort, and the girl was injured. He was fined £1 with costs £1 8/-. FAILED TO PAY LEVY. On the information of E. A. Wood, Inspector of Awards, William Sydney \ alentine Nicholls pleaded guilty to tailing to pay his June, August, November and February levies ot the unemployment tax. Counsel for the defendant said that the defendant had been practically without money. He did offer the money, but had lost his coupon book, and the Post Office officials would not accept it without the book. To secure another one it was necessary to go through certain formalities and by the time these were completed the money had gone. He was at present on relief work. His Worship adjourned the matter for two months to allow the defendant time to pay the levies. Athol Griffith was similarly charged. He wrote stating that ho was without money to pay the levy. Ihe inspector said that the defendant could have made application for exemption. His Worship decided to give him two months in which to find the money. THEFT ADMITTED. Robert Thomas Goddeson was charged with, on February 1 last, at Hastings, stealing a pair of hedge slippers and a length of garden hose, valued at £1 8/6, the property of H. G. Apperley. He pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant D. J. O’Neill said that the accused sold the clippers and gave a fictitious name and address. When interviewed by a constable he admitted this, and later when his property was seadched, the hose was found. The accused said he had bought the goods at an auction sale, but actually the goods were stolen prior to the sale. He had previously been convicted of theft. Counsel for the accused said he had seen the articles lying about. He was hard up at the time and fell to the temptation of realising a little cash. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.

MAINTENANCE CASES. Thomas Vernon Lachlan Campbell was ordered to pay current maintenance at the rate of 12/6 a week, and 7/6 a week off the arrears, amounting to £76 18/6, in respect to the maintenance of a child, m default three months’ imprisonment. John Bayley was ordered to pay 12/6 per week current maintenance and (id per week off the arrears, amounting to £43 15/-, in respect to the maintenance of his wife, in default three months’ imprisonment.
