HASTINGS—1932

[By “Jan.”] ft really is just wonderful, To see what has been done, In Hastings, since “The Earthquake,” Of nineteen-thirty-one. For then the streets were piled with bricks, Timber was everywhere, And sections, where once buildings stood, Were desolate and bare. We slept in cars, in sheds and tents, We lived and cooked outside, And many homes were rained, And many loved ones died. More than a year has passed since then. And now, we sco our town, With fine new buildings standing. Where others were thrown down. So if each one and every one, Will do his “little bit,” We’U soon bring back prosperity, Although we were “hard hit.”
