AN URGENT NEED
PROTECTING MANCATERETERE. SETTLERS’ PETITION TO RIVERS BOARD. The urgent need for immediate steps being taken to give added protection to Mangateretere and Lower Te Mata was stressed by settiers in a petition to the Hawke’s Buy Rivers Board today. The petitioners asked that protection lie given to prevent the Tuki Tuki river breaking through at MoRobbie’s and ultimately forming a new course across several farms. It was stated in the petition that on previous occasions members of tho board, when inspecting the district, had given an assurance that this urgent work would receive attention, but unfortunately the matter had been shelved This had resulted in the settlers being forced to petition the board to help them save then farms before it was too late.
