At the Manawatu Poultry Club’s young bird show held at Palmerston Mr J. N. Barrie secured eight firsts, one second and one third place, with 10 entries. His entry was also awarded the champion bird, with the cup for the best bird in the show.
The Otane Basketball Club held its annual meeting on Saturday evening, when the chairman. Miss Anne Searle, presided over an attendance of 16 playing members.
The annual report and balance sheet was read and confirmed, showing a satisfactory balance in hand of £5. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Mundell, the honorary secretary, for her services to the club, and also to Mr T. Roach, for placing his lorry at the disposal of the team tor long distance competitions.
Mrs E. G. Williams was elected patroness for the ensuing year, and Mrs A Robottom president, Miss A. Searle manager, and Miss L. Mundell secretary were both unanimously re-elected. It was decided to enter one team tor Wednesday competitions and two tor Saturday. An old time dance will be held in the Otane Town Hall on Saturday, April 30.
