A.J.C. EVENTS AT RANDWICK WINS AGAIN. AMMON RA DEFEATED. Sydney, March 27. The A.J.C. autumn meeting opened at Randwick on Saturday. There was fine weather, an excellent track and large attendance. Nightmarch proved that his brief respite from racing had not impaired his galloping ability by winning the wellendowed All Aged Stakes in convincing manner from a smart field. Kurvera enjoyed easy victory in the Sires Produce Stakes and appears to be the season’s best colt. Jacko, who hitherto was only capable of winning in novice company, won the Doncaster in hollow fashion from a field which included some of Australia’, best milers. Ammon Ra was again compelled to take second place to Middle Watch, who defeated him in the Victorian St. Leger. Ammon Ra appeared to have the race in safe keeping at the Leger, but Middle Watch, by a well-timed run, gathered him in with two lengths to spare. Results:— FIRST HURDLES. Hudibras 10.12 (Hynes) .. . M 1 Veilmond 9.0 (Pike) .. 2 Second Wind 9.0 (Duncan) 3 Seven started. Compris set the running at a slow pace and led past the half-mile followed by Nightmarch, Chide, Strength, and Veilmond. Nightmarch assumed control at the top of the straight and won nicely from the fast-finishing Veilmond and Second Wind by two lengths. Time, 2.36. SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES. Turbine led at the half-furlong but gave way to Nef, who led into the straight from Vauntry, Kurvera and Turbine. The Sydney Cup, worth £3656 to the winner, provided the poorest exhibition of riding in the history of the race. The reluctance of the jockeys to make the pace resulted in the spectacle of the horses racing with their heads in the air, taking 1.51} for the first mile.
