"The Times’ ” Madrid correspon 'lent states that the proscription of the Jesuits involves 80 communities with 3060 members. The decree will become effective on February 3 and forbids community life and confiscates property for charitable and teaching purposes. "It is a veritable massacre," said the Pope, referring to the dissolution of the Spanish Jesuits. "However, there is something supremely beautiful and glorious in these sad happenings. The Jesuits can rejoice in the same way as tho Apostles rejoiced in being held worthy to suffer in the name of Jesus. It is consoling for them to think that they will now be called not only confessors but martyrs.’’
