A NECESSARY INNOVATION. (Received 26, 2.45 p.m.) London, Jam 25. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald says: “The decision to allow dissentient members of the Cabinet to express their views on the tariff is' an innovation like the Cabinet itself. It will require delicate handling but I am assured that the co-operation of members of the Ministry will ensure its success. It is prompted not by constitutional theorising but bv a desire to find a commonsense exit from a difficulty foreseen right from the beginning, PROTECTION WANTED. NOT REVENUE TARIFF. (Received 26. 10.30 a.m.) London, Jan. 25. Lord Beaverbrook, speaking at the London Hippodrome, said: “The Government is going to give us a ten per cent, tariff, but we do not want a revenue tariff. We want a tariff which will give protection and provide mor* production in the British Empire. There is no duty on wheat, meat and tea, which are all Empire products. “I am tired of hearing that Mr MacDonald is indispensable. Let us get rid of such obstacles and get on with the business of developing the Empire.”
