DECLINE IN REGISTRATIONS. LAST WEEK’S FIGURES. Wellington, Dec. 11. lhe number of unemployed men registered in New Zealand for the week ended December 10 showed a decrease of 459 on the figures for the previous week, according to a return issued yesterday ■by the Rt. Hon. J. Q Coates, Minister in Charge of Unemployment. Th etotal for the week was 47,096, including 33,446 men who were engaged under part-time relief schemes, lhe remaining 13,650 who were registered were unplaced, and this figure was 1705 more than the number unplaced for the previous week. The registrations include 30,876 men with dependents, and 16,220 men without dependents. The men with dependents in the four main centres were:—Auckland. 3255; Wellington, 28-11; Christchurch, 3658; Dunedin, 1751: a total for the four cities of 11,505. The number of single men registered as unemployed in these cities was 2877. 2626, 1497 and 1063 respectively, making a total of 8063 for the four cities. A continuous decline in the total of registered unemployed has been recorded since the first week of October. It should be remembererL however, that men placed in single workers’ relief camps and those placed in employment on farms with a subsidy from the Unemployment Board’s fund, are not included in the registrations for which figures arc given above. Approximately 1000 men mo in the relief camps and some 6000 arc employed on farms under the subsidised schemes of the Unemployment Board.
